Working with the app

Can I also knit with Wooltasia?

Absolutely. As long as your stitch sample is set up correctly, Wooltasia works great for knitting too. And it is not limited to crochet and knitting: people also use it for perler beads, embroidery, and even drawing on graph paper.

My stitch samples

You can create and manage your stitch samples from the app overview. In the project overview, tap the apps icon in the top right and open the Stitch Sample Booklet.

For your first project, a stitch sample is required.

Important
If you are not sure what a stitch sample is, first read Stitch sample.

Stitch sample booklet

The stitch sample booklet is now opened via the icon in the top right of the project overview. That opens the apps overview where you can directly select the Stitch Sample Booklet.

Settings

You can change settings at any time, even while your project is already in progress. Open the side menu at the top left and choose Settings.

I have created a project, how do I start?

Start with the color that appears most in your motif, usually the background. Then crochet your starting chain to the project width, for example 210 stitches plus 1 turning chain (for single crochet). A practical tip: crochet 2 to 4 base rows first, then begin with the template.

My template looks pixelated, why?

The app calculates your image based on your stitch sample. Depending on your format and yarn, the motif can look pixelated. Your stitch sample tells the app how many pixels fit into an area of 10cm × 10cm.

To improve the result:

  • Use thinner yarn so more pixels fit into the same area.
  • Choose a smaller image crop so fewer details are required.
  • Or keep the crop and choose a larger project format for more detail.

How do I read the template?

By default, you read the template in a zigzag pattern: row 1 from right to left, row 2 from left to right, then back again. At the end of each row, add a turning chain and turn your work.

Are there other ways to follow the template, for example for Tunisian crochet or perler beads?

Yes. You can enable left-handed direction and use Tunisian mode. The same basic logic also works for perler bead and embroidery projects.

Left-handed mode

The concept is the same, you simply start on the left side.

Tunisian crochet

In Tunisian mode, you always start from the same side:

  • Right-handed: right to left
  • Left-handed: left to right

How do I change colors cleanly?

You can also check the “starter guide for motif crochet”.

  • For quick color changes (1-2 stitches), carrying the yarn is often fine.
  • For larger color blocks, avoid carrying yarn because it can show through.
  • For cleaner work, wind yarn onto clips/spools, prepare the color switch in the last loop of the old stitch, then finish with the new color.
  • Keep the yarn in front of the work during the color change, as shown in the video:

Undo checked boxes

Next to the green checkmark, there is also an arrow. Use it to undo already checked pixels.

Show crochet direction

The current direction is shown when you ...

  • ... finish a row and jump to the next.
  • ... choose a handicraft technique and enter the pixel grid.
  • ... open the pixel grid from the project overview.
  • ... or press the direction button in the toolbar.
